Language Access Services Chartered Health Plan believes that language should not be a barrier to providing quality health care services. If you do not speak English, we can still help. It is our commitment to our members, including those who have limited English proficiency (LEP). LEP means that an individual is unable to speak, read, write or understand the English language at a level that permits him or her to interact effectively.

Language access services are FREE and include:

  • Translation Services of Vital Documents – All vital documents, such as our Member Handbooks, and health benefit updates are translated into the following languages:
    • Spanish
    • Korean
    • Chinese
    • Vietnamese
    • French
    • Amharic and
    • Braille Format
  • Hearing Impaired – Members are assisted through:
    • TTY/TTD Relay Service (assistance by telephone)
    • A sign language interpreter (in-person assistance)
  • Interpreter Services – a competent professional interpreter who is able to speak English and the language requested by you will be available through:
    • Bilingual Member Service Representatives
    • Language Line – Interpreter by telephone
    • In-person (You or your provider may request an interpreter on your behalf for your next appointment).

To request a Member Handbook, or other vital documents in your primary language or an interpreter call our Member Services Department, Monday-Friday between 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. on (202) 408-4720 or Toll Free (800) 408-7511, or on TTY Relay Service at (202) 216-9885 or (800) 570-1190 for hearing impaired callers.

The National Committee for Quality Assurance has awarded Chartered an accreditation status of Commendable for service and clinical quality that meet NCQA's rigorous requirements for consumer protection and quality improvement. According to Margaret E. O’Kane, President, NCQA, "Achieving an accreditation status of Commendable from NCQA is a sign that a health plan is serious about quality. It is awarded to plans whose service and clinical quality meet or exceed NCQA’s rigorous requirements for consumer protection and quality improvement."
